Awarded the Magazine / Media Visual Editor of the Year by Pictures of the Year International (POYi). I am an award-winning science photo editor bringing complex science stories to life through in-depth research, reporting and editing working in collaboration with the world’s best photographers, cartographers, graphics editors and design editors. I have worked at National Geographic magazine since 1994 producing more than 130 stories, including 30 cover stories. I have held many positions at the magazine over the years—photo editor, deputy director of photography and director of photography. Currently, I am the senior science photo editor.

I taught photojournalism as an adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC. Prior to joining the magazine I was the photo and graphics editor of The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, La. I graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology and The Ohio State University.
